British billionaire offers prize to combat global warming

No carbon capturing technology exists and the idea is unproven, but Virgin Group chairman Sir Richard Branson joined by former Vice President Al Gore and other leading environmentalists on Friday, announced a challenge to devise the world's first workable technology to extract carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Branson pledged $25 million to any scientist or team who can identify such technology as a means of combatting the threat from global warming. Scientists have figured out how to bury CO2 before it's released into the air, but scrubbing it from the atmosphere may prove to be extremely difficult. » Richard Branson Offers $25 Million Climate Prize
