Climatologist Renews His Call for Action

Twenty years ago, James E. Hansen, a climate scientist at NASA, testified at a Senate hearing that he was “99 percent” certain that humans were already warming the climate.

Today Dr. Hansen says that skepticism and debates have distracted the public from the degree of confidence that experts have in changing climate patterns and higher sea levels as CO2 concentrations rise. The resulting confusion has been amplified by industries that extract or rely on fossil fuels, and this has given cover to politicians who rely on contributions from such industries.
